A Broken Heart

Heartache, what is it? It comes with many different faces, and is always devastating to the soul; yet, heartache can not be felt, without first feeling love. It is both a blessing, and a curse. To the heart: The sorrowful emptiness of heartache; can only be matched by the fullness, and wonder of love.

Why must this be so? Why must the human emotion, travel to the existence of polar opposites? How can both,  bring us to tears? How can one make us something better than we are; while the other turns us into something we are not?

How can one, through joy, make us vulnerable, and weak; while the other, through pain, can nurture man's most inner strength? Our emotions, can send us flying like a bird, to a life of endless possibility; or let us fall like a rock, into the deep sea of despair.

Love opens a veil that exist between mortality and eternity, for a short time, we get a glimpse into something sempiternal: The emotion God must have felt when he breathed life into our hearts, and minds.

The cold gray walls of heartache, imprison us, leaving us without life, without hope; keeping us bound to the burden of our mistakes; haunting us with our every decision, finding rest, only in the strength that follows.

Knowing all the while, a cold heart, can't feel the warmth of love; yet our heart continues to quicken, and like the scar tissue, that covers any wound, becomes hard. Leaving us wondering if the gift of love, is worth the risk of heartache.

Then as if to complete a circle, it's only love that tears down the walls, built by heartache, and so life goes. We can only pray love overcomes, and heartache fades.
