A Fall from Grace

With federal spending at unprecedented levels, a national debt that can only be described as monstrous, and an economic policy that baffles reasonable thought; Americans are gathering in their public squares and even on the Capitol steps with their hands thrown in the air, wondering: "where in the hell are the people we sent to represent us?"
There is a war taking place right before our eyes, and to the victor goes the destiny of a great nation; do we march forward to become a mirrored image of the European nations, or do we entrench ourselves
into the rich wisdom of our pioneering forefathers?
Our economic structure has been woven so tightly into our political policies, that it sometimes seems impossible to untangle them; politicians have stacked bad economic doctrine, on top of more of the
same for so long, that it almost seems hopeless to repair the damage, -and yet they continue.- The very people for which, we cast our votes to uphold and defend our constitution have placed an assault upon it, that threatens to crumble the last remaining lighthouse upon an endless sea of indentured humanity.
Yet, there is hope. This nation has stumbled, but She has not yet fallen; we can -and I believe we will- fix this. However, we must let the free-market reign; we must hold to the undying optimism that filled the hearts and minds of our forefathers.
The overwhelming desire of man to acquire wealth, create capital, and advance the human condition, coupled with man's natural tendency toward charity, would be the benchmarks of an economic system that would extend opportunity's reach throughout it's sacred land. The traditional and conservative beliefs of our founders were rooted deeply in the lessons of Sunday school; knowing the strength and wisdom taught within the bindings of God's sacred text would propel the people of this nation to prosper.
Conservatives believe in people, but it goes further than that; conservatives realize that over-taxation, stifles progress and chokes the very spirit required for the system to function.
It is our independent and proud nature that makes us a great people; denying our neighbors the opportunity to forge their way through hard times by making them dependent upon the very system in which they were meant to participate, is to deny them their dignity.
So much of the human spirit is lost to welfare; so much of man's desire to achieve falls prey to dependency.
Enslaving our citizens to a governmental structure is not charity, nor is it compassion, it is always for the pleasure of the master, and at the expense of the slave; since we adopted these policies of welfare -
which only serves to keep one underfoot- this nation has lost so many great minds, to fear of losing what is easy.
We must help our neighbors, but we must not become their providers, fore in doing so we become their masters, and deny them a right given to them by God: the right to succeed, or fail, to reach for his calling, and to stand in honor among his family.
