The Problem with Progressive-ism

Progressives have become increasingly aggressive and unyielding in their single-minded pursuit of equality; they believe "fairness" should be legislated, that all Americans should share the same economic reward, and they relentlessly pursue this outcome, but not by the education and elevation of lower income citizens; on the contrary, the idea is to relegate our economic leaders, thus narrowing the gap that exists between the richest and poorest Americans.

-Progressives believe this can be accomplished by taxation and equal distribution of the wealth, acquired by many hard working Americans.-

Their sentiment is that we should "equal the playing field" we should make the same opportunities available to all; this is the rationale used to perpetuate their agenda. Henceforth, this nation has passed countless pieces of legislation in the attempt to achieve this end. Yet, homelessness and poverty have not subsided.

We have now broadened this approach to extend outside of our borders, creating dependency throughout entire continents, and consequently robbing these peoples of personal sovereignty; However, with all the money spent in the name "equality" we can see no tangible difference in the lives of the recipients.

Have we not spent enough? Do we need to increase the funding of these social experiments before we can witness substantive change? Or have we been operating on the basis of flawed principles?

Supposedly, we do this to assist individuals who are down-trodden, and in need of basic substance for survival; however, the problem with our method is, that the individual receives that substance without any effort put forth. There is little doubt that a person's character is fundamentally changed when daily substance is provided for them, if the substance provided was not gained by their own labor; if this process continues the problem multiplies and the freely given substance becomes an expectation for the individual; thereby, diminishing any need for personal responsibility.

--This is not the American way.-- Historically America is a nation of hard-working, charitable people that are self sustaining and self governing.

"We base all our experiments on the capacity of mankind for self government." -James Madison

This quote from one of our founders depicted the intent of our forefathers to build a nation of achievers, knowing that the possibilities of mankind were limitless if given the freedom to pursue any avenue for success, and the liberty to barter with his neighbor to acquire capital without over-regulation and taxation.

Our founders understood an important aspect of governance, that is rejected by the modern progressive movement; that government was only capable of distributing two things equally among the people: 'Liberty and Freedom.'

The problems surrounding the progressive agenda are deep and fundamental; starkly contrasting the wisdom of our forefathers. This movement's publicly announced goal is to provide all citizens with economic uniformity; yet, the policies that accompany these efforts lead only to bloated government and the economic enslavement of it's citizens.

This nation has dabbled in Marxist theories of governing for almost a century, and the affects of it's presence in our legislative process are no longer subtle. We can see it in every American family that has both parents working outside the home to provide for their children; we can see it in the prices that working families are paying for life's necessities; we can see it in the time that's lost in devotion to proper upbringing and education. We can see it in governments ever-growing appetite for power, and their increasingly, creative policies of taxation.

These are not the principles this nation was founded upon, and should be rejected.  Americans must stand for a constitutional government, and deny further implementation of these principles into our society.
